MAIN TRAINING TIMES
Our main base and meeting place is at the British Legion in Wigston. There is a variety of abilities and both male and female runners, young and old! The times and days below are a guide. New runners when they first come along have the option to join up with the beginners group should they wish for the first few weeks or they can join up with one of the faster groups.
All groups have a designated leader, who will make sure that everyone knows where they are going, and that no one gets left behind.
SUMMER
In the Summer we are lucky to be based so close to the countryside and we have loads of excellent routes either along the canal, or through the fields following public footpaths and trails which takes us through local villages.
WINTER
In the Winter months we are restricted to running on the pavements and we go out on routes around Wigston, Oadby, Blaby, Aylestone, Knighton, Stoneygate and Evington. The routes vary each week and there are usually short or long options to follow.
TUESDAY NIGHTS - main night
We meet at the British Legion at 6.50pm for a 7.00pm start.
There is a bar in the Legion to help quench your thirst afterwards!
THURSDAY NIGHTS - optional
During the Summer months we meet at the University running track at Manor Road, Oadby, for various speed sessions.
In the winter we meet up at Victoria Park for various speed and hill sessions. 6.50pm for a 7.00pm start.
Also during the summer months, Thursday sessions may take place at Bradgate Park, or may be merged with pub runs. Any changes will be announced at the legion, here on the website, or on the Wigston Phoenix Facebook page.
SUNDAY MORNINGS - optional
In addition to the regular local races, there are also Sunday morning runs of a varying distance and terrain each week.
Please check with the club on Tuesdays for the forthcoming Sunday run details, meet up point and start time.
TRAINING WEEKENDS
Twice a year, we organise training weekends away
- one in late April/early May, and the other in early November. Challenging off road running is followed by lots of eating, drinking and socialising.
Previous venues have included The Peak District, The Forest of Dean and The Brecon Beacons.
The next one is at Matlock in Derbyshire in May. Unfortunately ths is
now full. However places do sometimes become available from cancellations
closer to the date, so keep an eye out at the Legion or on the website.
Places do always get snapped up very quickly, so if you do want to go to
the November weekend, a list will be put out at the Legion once a date and
venue have been confirmed.
